Otep Shamaya, from whom the band “Otep” takes its name, has serious plans to “Smash the Control Machine” from coast to coast in the US this summer. In fact, Otep herself has been burning up the public forum lately, both musically and otherwise. After a tour through South America, ending in January, Otep took a break to concentrate on her music however she hasn’t taken any time off at all from the spotlight. Having recorded a number of appearances on popular American television shows, Shamaya also lends her celebrity to the political and NGO arenas. She is an outspoken democrat, participating in national party events, and a spokesperson for a number of charitable and public-awareness organizations in the US. Despite her evidently busy schedule, Otep has dedicated the late summer of 2009 to the exclusive pleasure of her music fans.
